Interim policy, under legal review

Safeguarding

Everyone on a FIENDS roster is 18 or over. Our Discord server and community cups are open to younger players too, so we run everything as if an under-18 could be in the room. This page sets out what we promise and how to tell us if something is wrong.

Our commitments

  • Staff and volunteers never send private messages to anyone under 18, and never ask them to move to a private chat.
  • All contact happens in logged team channels on our Discord server or by email, never in 1:1 private chats.
  • At least two staff members are present at every event we run, online or in person.
  • Every adult with regular contact with under-18s has a background check before they start.
  • We have a named welfare officer who handles every concern and keeps a confidential record.
  • No gambling, betting or skin-betting in our spaces, and no sponsors from those industries.
  • Hate, harassment, sexual content, doxxing (sharing someone's personal details) and extremist content get removed, and the people posting them get banned.

How to report a concern

Our welfare officer is David Smith. If anything worries you, however small, tell us in any of these ways:

  • Post in #report-a-concern on our Discord server. Only staff can read it.
  • Email dave@fiends.gg.

We reply within 24 hours. We take every report seriously, we only share it with the people who need to know to keep someone safe, and you won't get in trouble for reporting in good faith.

If a child is in danger

If someone is at immediate risk, call 999 first. Then tell us.

  • In Guernsey, report a concern about a child to the Multi-Agency Support Hub (MASH) on 01481 223182, or contact Guernsey Police on 01481 222222.
  • Anywhere in the UK, report online grooming or sexual abuse to CEOP (National Crime Agency).
  • If you're under 18 and want to talk to someone privately, contact Childline.

What happens next

The welfare officer looks at every report, acts to keep people safe (for example, removing someone from the server while we look into it), and passes it to the police or children's services when the law or the risk calls for it. We keep only the records we need, stored securely, as our privacy notice explains.

We review this policy at least once a year and whenever the law or our activities change.
